DECATUR-A Central Illinois baby with a rare and life-threatening liver disease is now back home after a successful liver transplant.

We first introduced you to Crosby Hoots last year.  He’s nearly 18-months old now.

He was born with biliary atresia — a disease that affects the liver and bile ducts.

As a result, his skin and eyes were yellow.

But on June 13th, the Hoots family got the call and crosby had liver transplant surgery at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

“He is now a liver transplant patient,” says Mom Gina Hoots.  “So we traded one set of problems for another set.  So now we have rejection and infection to worry about.”

Without the transplant,  little Crosby was not expected to live past the age of two.

To stave off rejection of the liver and infection, Crosby is now taking roughly a dozen medications each day.

Crosby’s family is now dealing with mounting medical bills and more healthcare costs in his future.

They’ve already raised more than 41-thousand dollars toward a 50-thousand dollar goal.
