Adam Kingz will soon be a dad.
As the longest-living survivor of a lung transplant from Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children, it was a dream he never expected to become a reality. But now the 27-year-old from Beamsville is trying to beat the odds again.
Family and friends will be holding two fundraising events this weekend as they help Kingz prepare for a second life-saving transplant. It was tough blow when he was told almost a year ago that his lungs were failing again and he would die without the operation.
“I was angry and upset that it’s happening, now that I’m happy and everything is going well,” said Kingz, who grew up in Smithville.
“A second transplant is dangerous,” he added.
A night of entertainment called Adam’s Reunion will serve as a fundraiser for the family — which includes wife Ashley and stepdaughter EmmaLynn. The event takes place on Friday. A charity barbecue will be held at Turkstra Lumber, also on Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The evening event will feature a disc jockey, raffles, door prizes and games, said Katelynn Drake, a former classmate of Kingz.
