RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) –
Nationwide driver Joey Gase faced a tough decision just after his 18th birthday. After his mother passed away unexpectedly, he was faced with the task of donating her organs. That decision has impacted his life and now he promotes that cause everywhere he goes.
Gase will race Friday night at Richmond International Raceway, and visited Henrico Doctors Hospital Wednesday morning. He took time to visit with transplant patients who were recovering, as well as some who had yet to undergo an operation and were learning what to expect.
Gase makes it a point to meet with families of donors during his stops on the Nationwide circuit and he also honors donors on his car during races.
The 21-year old says that his mother’s organs helped 66 people and that one person can make a huge impact.
Gase is currently 19th in the standings and is seeking his first top ten finish of the year.
