Donate Life America Teams Up with PGA Tour Golfer and Two-Time Heart Transplant Recipient Erik Compton to Raise Organ Donation Awareness

RICHMOND, Va., July 31–In 2013, Donate Life America is once again partnering with PGA TOUR golfer and two-time heart transplant recipient Erik Compton on the educational campaign, “Play Through with Erik Compton,” which is supported by Genentech, a member of the Roche Group.  “Play Through” aims to raise public awareness of organ donation and urge Americans to consider becoming organ donors.

During Erik’s time on the 2013 PGA TOUR, “Play Through” will travel across the United States, highlighting the importance of organ donation and educating the public on how to register to become a donor.

“Off the golf course, organ donation is a topic that is very personal to me, which is why I am so excited to be partnering with Donate Life America,” said Compton. “I hope that by sharing my experience with others, Americans can see for themselves how important it is to learn the facts about donation and consider taking the next step of registering to become organ, eye and tissue donors.”

There are more than 118,000 candidates on the organ transplant waiting list in the United States.[i] This is more than enough people to fill a large football stadium twice over.[ii] Additionally, a new name is added to the national organ transplant waiting list every 10 minutes.[iii] This means that during a four-hour round of golf, approximately 24 people will be added to the organ transplant waiting list.
