It’s summer… time to educate ourselves about protecting our transplant kids in the sun.

We all know that transplant patients have to take extra precautions in the sun.  They are far likelier to develop skin cancer than the greater population.  There aren’t many materials regarding this for pediatrics, but the ones that are available (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15061845) conclude that the risk for children transplant patients is heightened just as it is for adults.

Given these facts there are some really good references targeted to adults that would help us parents to protect our transplant kids as well.  Please take a look at this guide provided by ITNS (International Transplant Nurses Society)  that is filled with answers as to why are transplant patients are more susceptible to skin cancer and how we can help them avoid it.
