Simsbury High School Football Player Makes First Touchdown Since Heart Transplant – NBC Connec

A Simsbury high school football player is back in the game after recovering from a heart transplant.

Eighteen-year-old Danny Dietz suffered from an enlarged heart – a condition called Cardiomyopathy – and underwent a heart transplant on Sept. 11, 2015.

NBC Connecticut spoke to Dietz last year when he was supporting his Simsbury High School teammates from the sidelines, and again this year after doctors cleared him to return to football.

Dietz told NBC Connecticut he was just happy to be back on the field. And on Friday night, when Simsbury played Enfield, Dietz scored his very first varsity touchdown, to the delight of his coach and teammates.

Simsbury ultimately won the game 52-51.
