Children in the Rio Grande Valley who are preparing for a liver transplant, can now receive some of the medical care they need in their own community. The first pediatric liver transplant program in the RGV is now offering medical services, thanks to the collaboration of the Doctors Hospital at Renaissance and the University Transplant Center. Children will be able to receive any medical care and evaluations leading up to the transplant at the DHR Campus, and the surgery will take place at the University Transplant Center in San Antonio.
Dr. Francisco Cigarroa, Transplant Surgeon says, “I strongly believe that in this decade, all subspecialty services, should be able to be provided in the Rio Grande Valley, and this is the first step in this process for pediatric transplantation.”
The DHR campus will also provide any medical help needed after the transplant for the patients.
