Niagara Gazette — A fundraiser on Oct. 27 at the Gratwick Hose Banquet Facility, 110 Ward Road, North Tonawanda, will benefit the Children’s Organ Transplant Association, and in particular transplant-related expenses for a 9-year-old who is currently waiting for a heart transplant.
All proceeds will go directly to COTA for transplant-related expenses for children. AnnaRose Van Sciver of North Tonawanda was born with a rare heart condition known as hypo-plastic left heart and double outlet right ventricle.
The left side of her heart was underdeveloped, causing the right side to do the work of both, with both the aorta and pulmonary arteries being on the right side.
She has had numerous surgeries in her short life starting a first surgery when she was only two weeks old in Syracuse, returning to her North Tonawanda home six weeks later, only to get sick within days.
AnnaRose was then admitted to Buffalo Children’s Hospital where at 8-months of age she had her second surgery and two months shy of her fifth birthday, a third surgery. Both of these surgeries were performed in Rochester.
AnnaRose was born and raised in North Tonawanda most of her life, living with her parents, Jim and Cean Van Sciver. In 2011 the family moved to St. Cloud, Fla., hoping the climate would be more beneficial to her.
On June 3, AnnaRose was admitted to Shands Hospital for Children at the University of Florida in Gainesville. When she was admitted she was immediately moved to the top of the list and she is now first in line for a heart transplant when a match is found.
Anyone who would like to help, may make a donation by check payable to COTA and turned in at the fundraiser or mailed to Vicki Weiss, 273 Wheatfield St., North Tonawanda, N.Y. 14120.
Organizers are also asking help for either gift baskets or donations for gift baskets, items for raffles, gift cards and/or certificates. Pizza, hot dogs, and hamburgers would also be appreciated.
All donations are tax deductible and all funds collected will be submitted to COTA after this event.
For more information, call either Weiss at 694-1275 or William Roberts at 417-5436.
