Join us for episode two of "Growing the Gift." where heart transplant recipient and Author of Things My Therapist Doesn't Want Me to Say: Ten Years Post Heart Transplant Emma Rothman will join us. We will discuss how to handle the challenges of being a transplant recipient as a child and an adult have been. The "Growing the Gift" podcast is about pediatric transplant recipients from the eyes of those who live it every day: caregivers, parents, the clinical team, and the community.
Emma Rothman grew up in Cranford, NJ. In 2011 Emma received a life-saving heart transplant and was forced to surrender to the messiness of her life. Before her transplant, Emma was an active athlete and student and after her transplant; Emma was still a student and athlete; but, she discovered a newfound energy to pursue a life that centered around not taking her health for granted and advocating for adolescent and young adult patients' needs. One month after her ten-year heart transplant anniversary, Emma had the privilege of graduating from Syracuse University and plans to continue holding space for her community to share their hospital experiences.
We know that being a transplant family comes with unique challenges, and we want to provide a space for you to feel seen, heard, and understood. In each episode, we will explore a different topic related to transplantation through interviews with experts and families like yours.
